The first IVF laboratory in Kazakhstan was established in 1995 at the City Human Reproduction Center in Almaty, under the leadership of the renowned organizer, Candidate of Medical Sciences Tamara Muftakhovna Jusubalieva.
If we trace the historical timeline of domestic reproductive medicine in terms of the use of assisted reproductive technologies (ART), the initial stage of their implementation can be considered 1987. At that time, the City Human Reproduction Center (CHRC) was opened – a specialized institution addressing infertility issues, with Tamara Muftakhovna Jusubalieva appointed as the chief physician.

The Institute of Reproductive Medicine successfully treats various forms of infertility in both men and women. Different programs are implemented to maximize effectiveness. This includes the use of IMSI, PICSI, and MACS methods in addition to ICSI, allowing achievement of high international standards.
In 2014, a modern method of testicular and epididymal biopsy — Micro-TESE — was introduced, significantly increasing the chances of having a child in the family.
A complete transition was made to the rapid freezing method — vitrification of gametes and embryos, which ensures high post-thaw embryo viability and significantly increases the likelihood of pregnancy.
A donor oocyte cryobank has been established and is continuously updated. Surrogacy programs and modified natural cycle programs operate successfully.
The greatest achievement of recent years is undoubtedly the implementation of preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) at the Institute of Reproductive Medicine using FISH and CGH methods. These methods allow the analysis of hereditary and congenital diseases, especially in cases with a high risk of genetic pathology, selecting only “healthy” embryos for transfer. Chromosomal analysis using the CGH method enables highly accurate examination of all 23 chromosome pairs for various genetic disorders before embryo transfer into the uterus.

In 2018, following medical organization accreditation, the Institute of Reproductive Medicine was once again awarded the highest category. Additionally, the Accreditation Center of the Republican Healthcare Development Center (RCDC) granted the highest category to the IRM Clinic on Kabanbay Batyr (Almaty) in its first year of operation.
The accreditation commission recognized IRM as the first and only clinic in Kazakhstan that allows the complete cycle of infertility treatment to be carried out within a single medical facility.
The expert evaluation and official recognition by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan serve as documentary proof of the high quality of medical services provided by the clinic. Over 30 years of operation, more than 30,000 children have been born at IRM — new citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
