From June 24 to June 30, Kazakhstan hosts a Reproductive Health Week, organized with the support of the National Commission on Women's Affairs and Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Astana also hosts events to raise public awareness of the importance of reproductive health and promote a healthy lifestyle, the official website of the Mayor's Office of Astana reports.
This week, at information events and Open Days, young people can learn more about reproductive health, methods of preventing unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), the increasing prevalence of HIV infection and STIs, as well as the prevention of human papillomavirus, which causes cervical cancer. These days, you can undergo free medical examinations and consultations for teenagers in any polyclinic or youth centers established at medical institutions.
Members of the Commission on Women's Affairs and Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan visited the Youth Health Center "Zhas Talap", located in the capital's polyclinic No. 6.
According to the chief physician of the polyclinic Dinara Bayserkina, the Youth Center is open to anyone who needs medical advice and assistance, regardless of registration.
"We accept everyone who is attached to our clinic and all schools that belong to our clinic. But, also, a teenager from any district of the capital can come to any youth center and get advice and help. After all, the principle of operation of the Youth Center is based on trust, goodwill, accessibility, and voluntariness. Why? Because a teenager will come only when there is trust, because the center treats him kindly, and visiting the center itself is affordable. You can come to the consultation without an appointment and get the service for free," Dinara Bayserkina said.
The chief physician of the polyclinic said that the work of the head of the Youth Center consists of visits to schools, kindergartens, universities and colleges.
"Girls come to us most of all. Well, again, due to the fact that girls take care of their health more than boys. But there is such a trend that boys are also starting to come," said Ludvik Malinovsky, director of the youth center.
According to him, 20-25 people apply to the center per day.
If schools need seminars or trainings, they contact the WhatsApp chat created by the Youth Center, and its specialists come to them with lectures and answers to questions, handouts.
At the end of the meeting at the youth center, Deputy of the Mazhilis Snezhanna Imasheva said that at the initiative of the National Commission on Women's Affairs and Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a reproductive health week is being held.
"As members of this commission, we visit medical institutions. Our colleagues and doctors told us what kind of work is being done. Why is reproductive health important? Because this is the health of the nation. In order for a healthy Kazakhstani to be born, it is important that his mother be healthy. It is very important that we have such centers in our country, we have seen this with our own eyes. We know what the problems are and how they can be solved. In any case, these issues are being resolved in the capital," Snezhanna Imasheva summed up.
