Kazakhstan Performs Its First Robotic Heart Surgery

At the Hospital of the Medical Center of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a robotic heart surgery was performed for the first time in the history of the country and Central Asia.
The procedure was carried out by the cardiac surgeons of the Medical Center Hospital in collaboration with a team of specialists from the People’s Republic of China as part of an International Scientific and Practical Conference.

The patient, a 28-year-old woman with a congenital heart defect—an atrial septal defect—underwent surgery using the latest generation robotic surgical system. The procedure was performed through a minimal access approach, without the need for traditional sternotomy.
The patient’s condition is reported as stable.

According to the Medical Center, the surgery marked an important milestone in the development of high-tech cardiac surgery and the strengthening of international cooperation in the field of medicine.

As part of the conference, consultations with international specialists also took place.
Alongside the hospital’s cardiologists, patients were seen by Dr. Olga Nikolaevna Djioeva, Doctor of Medical Sciences, cardiologist, and specialist in functional diagnostics (Moscow, Russia).

In addition, consultations were conducted by Professor Jeon Yungwoo, Head of the Hematology Department at St. Mary’s Hospital (Eiydo, Japan), who examined nine patients.

It is worth noting that Astana recently hosted the largest International Scientific and Practical Conference, whose program included discussions on current issues in cardiac surgery, oncology, nuclear medicine, neurosurgery, therapy, digitalization, pharmaceutical regulation, nursing, as well as leadership and healthcare quality management.

The forum was attended by representatives of government bodies, leading clinics, scientific institutes, and universities of Kazakhstan, as well as foreign experts from ten countries.
The conference provided a platform for experience sharing and the promotion of innovative medical and educational technologies.

In total, approximately four thousand people participated in the events both online and offline. The number of views for the live session broadcasts exceeded four thousand.
