Kazakhstan entered the TOP 22: UMC received international accreditation as an Academic Medical Center
University Medical Center became the first Academic medical center with international accreditation in the CIS.

From September 9 to 13, 2024, UMC successfully passed JCI accreditation as an Academic Medical Center, becoming the 63rd clinic in the world to receive a JCI certificate, and thus brought Kazakhstan to the list of 22 countries in the world.

JCI's international accreditation is considered the gold standard in the field of quality of medical care and patient care worldwide. Accreditation standards include thousands of indicators that help assess the organization for the quality of treatment, patient-oriented care, infection prevention and control, surgical treatment, medication use, vocational training, research activities and other parameters. The accreditation of a medical organization is regarded by the international community as a sign of the quality of medical care and a guarantee of patient confidence.

The Academic Medical Center is a tertiary (highest) level clinic, which is organizationally and administratively integrated with the School of Medicine. UMC clinics are the main place of study for medical students and residents of the Nazarbayev University School of Medicine, as well as an organization where research is conducted with the participation of patients in accordance with international protocols.

The Commission assessed 1,250 measurable indicators in all three clinics and found no complete non-compliance with the standard. This shows the high level of quality of medical care and patient safety, the educational process and ongoing research.

"Today is a significant moment for our institutions, the whole of Kazakhstan and Central Asia. For the first time, our clinics are embarking on the path of JCI accreditation as an academic medical center. This step represents not only a significant achievement, but also an opportunity for transformation for our healthcare system," said Yuri Pya, Chairman of the UMC Board. – We decided to get JCI accreditation because of its well-known reputation for excellent quality and its potential to improve every aspect of our medical care. This accreditation will help us move beyond traditional practices by adopting an advanced approach that prioritizes quality, safety and innovation. It symbolizes our commitment to building a culture of continuous improvement and improving the overall level of medical services."
