The opening of the National Coordination Center for Emergency Medicine (NCCEM) has elevated Kazakhstan’s emergency medical care system to a new level through a cluster-based model. The system of emergency and urgent care includes a unique multidisciplinary hospital, a medical aviation service equipped with new aircraft, and a nationwide coordination system for ambulance services.

The NCCEM Multidisciplinary Hospital is a modern clinical facility with 250 beds, featuring nine clinical departments across 29 specialties: general surgery, obstetrics, polytrauma, internal medicine, cardiothoracic surgery and cardiology, urology with outpatient surgery, purulent-septic surgery and burn unit, gynecology, and neurosurgery.

“Previously, all emergency services in the country operated independently, but today we coordinate and oversee emergency care across the entire republic. This allows us to provide timely and qualified assistance to critically ill patients from remote regions and improve key performance indicators of local ambulance services. From March 17 to June, around 3,000 patients were admitted to our clinic, including 14 foreign citizens from the USA, Tajikistan, the Czech Republic, Nigeria, Korea, and China. Today marks a historic event — the first childbirth in our newly opened obstetric department: a baby girl named Kausar was born,” said Yerzhan Adilbekov, Chairman of the NCCEM Board and a top-category neurosurgeon, in an interview with journalists.

The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology: a 256-slice CT scanner, a 3-Tesla MRI machine, an angiograph, X-ray and ultrasound systems, and 12 operating rooms. In addition, it features the KINEVO 900 robotic surgical visualization system, providing high precision and clear imaging of anatomical structures, as well as the KICK navigation system, which offers surgeons accurate images and navigation data.

One of the key advantages of NCCEM is the presence of a helipad and a hangar for medical aviation, enabling rapid transportation of patients from various regions of the country. In the first half of 2025, a total of 1,047 flights were conducted — 829 by airplane and 218 by helicopter — representing a 10.1% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Additionally, five international medical evacuation flights were carried out to transport critically ill patients from Turkey, Vietnam, Germany, South Korea, and Egypt.

The center also operates a Telemedicine and Remote Medical Services Center (Situation Center), which provides round-the-clock monitoring of critical and severe patients, including those in intensive care units and women with obstetric complications.

In addition, a Training and Simulation Center operates within NCCEM, aimed at training and improving emergency medical care skills in accordance with international standards.

The structure of NCCEM also includes:

  • The Republican Stroke Coordination Center, which provides methodological and organizational support for the treatment of patients with acute cerebrovascular disorders;

  • The Heart Rhythm Center, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac rhythm disorders using advanced technologies.
