Cardiac surgeons at the Multidisciplinary City Hospital No. 1 in Astana successfully performed their first open-heart surgery.
This event marked the official launch of the new cardiac surgery department, the opening of which holds strategic significance for the entire country.
Cardiac surgical pathology ranks among the leading causes of mortality and disability in Kazakhstan. Cardiovascular diseases, including ischemic heart disease, valve defects, infectious endocarditis, and aortic aneurysms, require timely and high-tech approaches to treatment.
Now, residents of the capital and patients from other regions of the country will have access to high-tech specialized elective and emergency cardiac surgical care for acute and chronic forms of ischemic heart disease, including coronary artery bypass grafting, reconstructive and prosthetic surgeries for congenital and acquired heart valve defects, treatment of infectious endocarditis using modern surgical sanitation and valve replacement techniques, and other types of interventions.
In Astana, as a rapidly growing capital city, there is a high demand for a modern cardiac surgery center capable not only of serving the local population but also of providing urgent care to patients from across the country, especially in emergency situations.
Currently, the existing capacities of the national specialized centers are overloaded, which can lead to delays in providing life-saving care.
The opening of the cardiac surgery department is expected to reduce mortality from complicated forms of ischemic heart disease and acute coronary syndrome through timely coronary artery bypass surgery, improve the quality of life for patients with heart valve defects, and decrease mortality from infectious endocarditis by implementing rapid diagnostic protocols and early surgical intervention.
