The official opening of Professor Oral Ospanov, a unique Center for Obesity and Diabetes Surgery in our country, took place in Astana.

According to the WHO, the percentage of obese people has more than doubled over the past three decades. 15-36% of the adult population of the world have health problems related to excess weight. Obesity is not only a problem of excess weight, but also a chronic metabolic disorder that can cause a number of complications.

It is indicated that every fourth inhabitant of the planet is overweight. And Kazakhstan is no exception. Studies conducted by the Kazakh Academy of Nutrition have shown that the average prevalence of overweight and obesity among the adult population of the country (15 years and older) was 29.7% in women and 33.9% in men; obesity – 25.8% in women and 15.3% in men. This suggests that more than half of the adult population of Kazakhstan (55.5% of women and 49.2% of men) are overweight.
The problem is so serious and extensive that it is dealt with not only by nutritionists, but also by surgeons.

Opening of the Obesity and Diabetes Surgery Center
The official opening of Professor Oral Ospanov's unique Center for Obesity and Diabetes Surgery in our country took place in Astana.

The name "bariatric" means "weight, heaviness", that is, it is a branch of medicine dealing with the problems of overweight and obese people. And the section of surgery that treats overweight people is called "bariatric surgery." Metabolic surgery is an operation aimed at treating metabolic disorders.

During the event, the founder of bariatric and metabolic surgery in Central Asia, the President of the NGO "Kazakhstan Society of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgeons", known worldwide for his innovations in this field of medicine, Professor Oral Ospanov introduced the participants to the main activities of the Center.

Moreover, he talked about the widespread weight loss surgery with a positive long-term effect and a low risk of complications.

"Bariatric surgery is a change in the physiology of patients, which results in the formation of biologically active substances in the body that eliminate the main problem of diabetes mellitus. Patients have their own insulin, but the body does not respond to it for various reasons, so we change the physiology and cause the body to feel. The technique is called "FundoRing," he shared.

The uniqueness of the Center
The uniqueness of the center lies in the fact that the Republican Coordination and Educational Center, the Scientific Center for the development of metabolic surgery of type 2 diabetes mellitus will function on the basis of this organization. As well as the location of the national Bariatric Registry.

Specialized in surgery for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and overweight, the Center is engaged in surgical prevention of the disease at the initial stage.

The Center also uses patented innovative gastric bypass technologies such as "FundoRing", the introduction of rapid recovery technology in inpatient replacement surgery, which reduces the length of stay in the hospital to 1 bed-day, direct and indirect savings in financial and budgetary resources when using a multimodal approach.
