Neurosurgeons of the National Center of Neurosurgery, together with obstetricians and gynecologists of the National Scientific Center for Motherhood and Childhood of the UMC CF, performed two successful operations on the patient at the same time, namely, removal of a giant brain tumor and delivery by cesarean section to a woman at 38 weeks of pregnancy.
In July 2024, a native of the Akmola region sought medical help from doctors at her place of residence with complaints about:
-visual impairment,
-clouding and discomfort in the right eye,
- weakness and fatigue.
After the examination, doctors from the district hospital recommended to undergo an MRI of the brain. An MRI scan of the woman revealed a brain tumor in the chiasmal-cellular region with a spread to the frontal lobes. 5*5*6 See
During an urgent consultation of doctors of the National Center of Neurosurgery JSC in Astana, headed by the country's chief neurosurgeon, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Akshulakov Serik Kuandykovich, it was decided to urgently hospitalize her to the Capital for surgical treatment at the Neurosurgery Center.
Taking into account the patient's serious condition and the high risk of further complications, neurosurgeons, obstetricians, gynecologists, and anesthesiologists collectively determined the treatment tactics of this patient. So, at first it was decided to carry out a delivery by caesarean section, and after that to perform an operation to remove a giant tumor. A girl was born, without technical complications. The microsurgical operation to remove the tumor using the neuronavigation system lasted about 8 hours and was successful.
The jewelry work of a complex operation consisted in the fact that the tumor was located close to the optic nerve and carotid artery, in such cases it is very important not to damage parts of the nervous system and its pathways.
Today, mom and baby are doing well. The patient's eyesight began to recover after the operation. The woman is under the supervision of neurosurgeons at the Center, and the baby was transferred to the National Center for Motherhood and Childhood. I wish you good health! Take care of your health from a young age!
The operation was performed by the head of the Department of Neurosurgery of Brain Pathology, Candidate of Medical Sciences - Nurzhan Ryskeldiev, neurosurgeons Muratbek Tleubergenov and Dauren Baymukhanov. Also, during the operation, a multidisciplinary team of doctors worked, which included the most experienced anesthesiologists of the National Research Center and obstetricians and gynecologists of the National Scientific Center for Motherhood and Childhood. https://neuroclinic.kz/index.php National Center of Neurosurgery https://umc.org.kz / UMC Maternity and Childhood Center
